Significant technological advances for residential lighting have occurred in the efficiency of low voltage MR 16 halogens and
LED's. However, the majority of lamps sold for residential use continue to be general service incandescent. Their average
efficiency has declined in recent years with the growing focus
on long life and modified spectrum products. This presentation
will address a number of burning questions:

* What can be done technically to improve general service
lamp energy efficiency?

* What policy efforts are underway at the state, federal, and international level to accelerate that process?

* What market opportunities do better general service lamp designs create for lighting practitioners?
